Guest Lecture at the National Institute for Security Studies, Abuja Nigeria

Professor Don John Omale, the founder of the African Forum for Restorative Justice, was invited to a guest lecture on the 17th July 2023 at the National Institute for Security Studies, Abuja Nigeria.

He had a robust conversation on the topic “Challenges to Public Policy Implementations in Africa” with the participants of the Executive Course 16 selected from the Directorate cadre of law enforcement, security, and intelligence agencies in Nigeria and across Africa subregions.

He used the opportunity to advocate for the transformation of the security and criminal justice agencies because their roles are important to restorative and social justice in Africa.

He argued that if law enforcement, security, and intelligence agencies do their jobs well, there will be a reduction in the endemic corruption that is contributing to social injustice in society. Moreover, if they “see something and say something,” wrong people will not be in positions of authority, and innocent people will not unjustifiably be in the prisons for offences they do not commit. By this, the agencies would be contributing to the principles and aspirations of Restorative Justice.
